The United States Bicentennial was a series of celebrations and observances during the mid-1970s that paid tribute to the historical events leading up to the creation of the United States of America as an independent republic. The Bicentennial culminated on Sunday, July 4, 1976, with the 200th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.
This pocket watch was produced by Bradley Time Division in 1974 to commemorate this historic occasion. The watch dial depicts the side portrait of Benjamin Franklin who was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and in many ways was "the First American". The case back depicts the 'Liberty Bell' designed by 22-year-old art student Dennis R. Williams. His design was used in the reverse of the Eisenhower Dollar, bicentennial, 1975-1976.
