I got this in a thrift store. I paid $5 for it. The owner of the store told me it was from the late 40s early 50s.
It was very wobbly and had no support. The original pc had broken off. The pegs were still on the bars on each side.
I began to remove the covering on the seat and was stunned to find several layers had been added over the years. When I came across the rose print, I seriously contemplated keeping that but knew I would have to put plastic on top to protect the very old material. I then decided to use the burgundy/gold upholstery fabric instead.
My husband did add a piece of wood across the bottom to stabelize it and wood glued the legs, used clamps, let it sit overnight...and created a stable bench on which to sit.
Another darling piece that was not safely useable has been turned into a beautiful bench that we can have as extra seating.
