I bought this at a garage sale a few months ago for, get ready... .25 cents! I saw this pretty little gem on a table full of antique pressed glass, and this one caught my eye, didn't see a price. I was the only person at the garage sale, so I just strolled around some more. I finally asked him the price, I almost fainted when he said .25 cents. So I bought it, and while on my bike, I searched for it on the internet on my phone, and saw the exact same one selling for 85 dollars on a victorian pressed glass website. I know it's at least before 1901, becasue that's when president Mckinley was assasinated, and I bet he would of made it on the mug too. There's a crack on the handle, but that's it, it's in NM condition.

It was made in 1881, shortly after the assaination of presedint Garfield. Many glass companies jumped on the bandwagon and made items to commemorate his death. The crack will diminsh the value. Most glass collectors want their pieces without damage, even if they are well over 100 years old. While not as desirable as campaign items, it may have more appeal to someone who collects political memorabilia. It's hard to say what someone would pay for it even if it were in mint condition. There are many factors involved.

I have an identical mug to the above. Short story: I found it about 40 years ago in the muddy banks of French Creek, just south of Meadville, PA. I was swimming with my family and saw the handle sticking out of the mud and thought that it was a piece of glass. It has traveled with me all of these years. Great to hear that it is over a 100 years old.
