Your dish is beautiful and by William Hutton & Sons, a manufacturer of fine silver and plated wares, located in Sheffield, England.

The "BP" means "British Plate" so your dish is not sterling.

      Hi Peterdrury,
It is possible the 4 is a journeyman's mark. A journeyman was a qualified craftsman who worked for a master. They were often assigned a mark or a number in order to have a count if how many pieces he had produced and also as quality control as the master would know which of his men had produced what piece.
