    This was in my father's tool box. Clearly a specialized purpose. He owned an old fashioned hardware in Akron OH and all sorts of odd tools came through the back door for new handles and such. Suppose it could be rubber/tire manufacturing related.

    The head is about 10ozs., 1" diameter x 3" long with a 10-1/2" handle. The handle is held with a metal pin through the head.

      To me it looks like it was once not a hammer, looks like it was an engine part made into a hammer

      Fair guess, looks as if could be used to hold a finishing nail in hole for starting where the nail couldn't be held. There were many designs patented

      Yup, commonly called a tack hammer. They were popular years ago.
