Maybe Mani can help with Maurie?
I was down at the shop this morning and overheard the ladies talking about some 'collector's dolls' that had just come out of the back-room. Nothing else had interested me in the slightest and I had to have a look. There he was in a box with five young ladies who had seen better days.
Maurie was the stand out to my eye. He looked like one of those Hummel figures. Blue eyed and curly cued! The clothes were kind of Germanic too: tailored even. Knitted socks. Bows on the shoes. Detailed.
I even had to justify my interest to the sales staff! They were expecting someone else other than me to be interested.
This was my period.
The Fifties.
My mother even dressed me like this!
Whatever!
I took him home and showed him around the Adagio and Skrdlovice.
He has marks at the neck that have refused so far to be photographed: 12 BH - 2.
Stands well! Good posture! Maurie is 30 cm or 11.8" tall.
Open/closed eyes: he sleeps!
Love the staging. Great shoes on the doll
Many thanks CLOCKERMAN!

G'day!
Maurie is just wonderful! I like boy dolls, they are so much less common (huh!) than those prissy girls!
Hope Mani can help. He certainly looks quality and someone has carefully kept him a long time.
Many thanks KAREN.
He is in such great nick for his age, ....... unlike me!

Many thanks ANTIQUES IN NJ!
Many thanks GARY!
Ok so I am late :-) He looks pretty proud standing up there with those very impressive pieces in your display :-) But he is a celluloid doll and reminds me of a Tommy Tucker Doll. Celluloid was banned is US in 1940 but was still made by other countries till the 50's. Does he have any symbol on him like a "Turtle" ? I did locate a girl friend for him although she is twice his height :-) Although many countries made similar dolls I would suspect he was made in Germany .

Love the history that you share, love the sweet little boy!
Many thanks everyone and especially MANIKIN for the INFO.
Oh no?
CELLULOID?
FLAMMABLE!
Thanks to VIRGINIA VINTAGE, PHIL, LEAH, GARY, GEO 'n VIOLETORANGE.
I had a look at the turtle mark, Mani. The shoes are similar on that doll, but not as detailed as Maurie's. Maurice just has the numbers and B H on his neck. Nothing like a turtle. I will have to undress him to see if there is anything on his back.
Many thanks ELISABETHAN!
Vet Maurice is wearing girls shoes ! :-) common on dolls from 50's :-) I know the one I posted is not exact same similar , Maybe his back is marked . He looks German made . The quailty of his clothes says he was not a cheap made doll .
Thanks MANI.
I gave him a shoe shine last night.
Top pieces Kevin & I think all boys were dressed similar back then. I hope you are having some top weather I'm still waiting for Winter to begin days have still been so hot.
Many thanks ZOWIE 'n HO2CULTCHA!
