I got this old post card in a stack from USA . It is of the conspirators of Lincoln. I have had a few collectors approach me to acquire it, but with today's prices for a new post card being $6.99. I find it insulting when a dealer try's to give me $5 for something that is in mint condition, and 70 years old. I chase to keep the card, and started to collect them on my own. Thought I would show and tell. D
Amazing scene!....:-)
Great image, with early examples bringing top prices.
How did you date it? Can you add a picture of the back?

This is the one where they also hanged Mary Surratt because she owned the boarding house where the conspirators planned things & I don't recall that they ever proved that she was truly "in the know". Probably so. Today, that is called "mis-prison" & don't recall that it is a capital offense. Things were crazy then.
Apparently it WAS PROVEN to the satisfaction of the military tribunal that found her guilty and sentenced her to death.
She also was implicated by one of the other conspirators.

But Scott, was it a capital offense? There was blood in the water & the sharks were hungry.
Conspiracy to assassinate the President is probably the charge that carried the Death Sentence.
scott
Don't know details of the case so don't know if she was proven to be IN the conspiracy. Maybe somebody else knows?
Yes-- she was found guilty of conspiracy to assassinate the President.
Well, hang the B then! Draw & quarter her!
I will post a picture of the back of the post card. I had copies to customers that like this picture. They sign the back and give it to their kids that cause trouble. Lucky we done live in those days, was hard justice, and swift. I have stacks of postcards here that show so many great pieces of American history. Will find the time this weekend when it rains. My library just opened, so much new antique books and collectables to go through yet. ME
