Old saw with nice wooden handle. Not sure of the year or make of the saw. Needs a nice cleaning. Saw this in the rubbish bin had to save it from the landfill!

Not an antique or it would have a starter tooth on the top of the lead end. It is a rip saw from the looks. Should be branded somewhere around the handle. Certainly a vintage saw and looks in good shape. The handle is probably worth more than the entire thing if it is unmarked.

No but the other side of the saw should have screw heads showing. Regardless of age they will back out pretty easy so you can inspect the blade. Normally they are brass screws and sockets. Wood used in the handles depended on what was cheap at the time it was made, yet durable. This handle may have seen more than one blade. It isn't uncommon to put your handle to a new blade. Although I suspect few people use a hand saw anymore. It is kind of a lost art....it takes work to use it and power tools are easier.
PS: The wood used is less important than the design and comfort of the handle.

Fhrjr2 yes indeed the handle is very neat.
Looks to me to be a Early Henry Disston & Sons but not that early since there is no "Nib" but still these saw if cleaned up a little revealing the Medallion can be worth some money. If it is a Henry Disston I would recommend Checkng out Disston Institute Website to for Dating. The thumb hole saw are selling well on eBay. Good Luck.
Only the straight back saws had the nib. The skew back saws can be quite old and yours appears the be a circa 1910 Disston D-8. The top horn is missing its tip and the blade has seen a lot of resharpening. These thumb hole handles are beautiful examples of saw workmanship.
