This little (3,3 cm in diameter) brooch has a c-clasp and tube hinge. It has a makersmark I haven´t been able to figure out yet. It has the Stockholm mark and a mark that tells me it was made in 1906. It also has the Swedish silver mark. I think this brooch shows the Swedish Art Noveau offspring called 'national romanticism'. The symbols look "viking inspired". Swedish jewellry from this time rarely, acourding to what I've read, had enamel. The colors of the enamel together with the symbols makes this little silver brooch quite special I think, what do you think?

Greatful for ideas about the name of this type of enamel. Clues like that might give me some ideas about who made it.

Thanks, glad you liked it!! Yes I agree and think it's that mark but can't find any maker registered 1906. So I feel I can't be sure yet. Thanks for love and nice coment!

Looks almost Celtic Elisabeth. Guess historically there was some crossover there.
Wonderful brooch - you need a big cloak to wear with it now!
    12. Elisabethan Elisabethan, 10 years ago
Thanks Racer4four! I agree it looks celtic to. The brooch could have been imported as the importmark wasn't used yet at this time, and the jewelery firm could have put their mark
On it. But there was also some crossover as you say. What makes me think this is more likely a brooch made in Sweden intending to show viking themes rather than celtic is the national romanticism that was popular at the time. The artists were drawn to images of vikings etc.

Yes, I do need to get myself a long cloak, know where to get one :-).

Racer4four, I just 'loved' an older post by cogito that also shows the national romanticism. If you find it interesting, have a look.

On a trip to Scotland I bought one just like yours, but the color is different. I collect Scottish silver vintage jewelery. The pin(brooch) has an older C clasp which means it is an older piece.
    15. Elisabethan Elisabethan, 10 years ago
Hello Moonhill! Really? I would love to see your brooch, do you still have it? Did it have any marks? Yes this is an old piece, it has both the c-clasp and the tube hinge that was typical for the victorian era and probably sometime after that in some cases.

Thanks for answering me and for 'love'.

Idcloisonne I'm very greatful for your knowledge and help. I'm really getting more and more interested in enameljewelry. I see jewelry as being able to ware a small piece of art, and with the colors of the enamel that's even more so. I'm happy to hear that you like it. I'm also intrigued by the whole composition. Thanks again!

Beautiful.Brooches are back too.I wear mine lots on the shoulder with a scarf or pashmina. Also with cardigans with no buttons.I love to clasp them to hide my tummy.I get lots of comments
I hope you get lots of use
      Cheers Rose
    27. Elisabethan Elisabethan, 10 years ago
Thanks Rose! I wear my brooches the same way, and the tummy gets hidden :-) even if I haven't thought about that. I'm fond of brooches, they really are like wonderful little pieces of art! Like small paintings you can wear. At the moment I'm particularly interested in old enamel brooches. Thanks for love and nice coment Rose!

So pretty! Thought it was Celtic when I saw it. Love it!
    31. Elisabethan Elisabethan, 10 years ago
Thanks Jewels, these types of brooches are real mindteisters. Celtic ornaments can be found in Ireland, Scottland, parts of France and the runs/vikingpatterns in scandinavia are similar in someways. At the time this was made influenses came from all over the place so I don't know really what the maker got the influence from at the same time as the Nordic was selebrated.
