These vases were acquired in a clean out. When I found them there was a note on the bottom that stated that they were brought back from Nagasaki Japan during the 1870's aboard the uss Hartford. That's all I know about these vases. Please help. I can be reached at johncartlidge23@yahoo.com
Thank you
Just a suggestion, first-keep the note that was attached, just stick it inside. I would then have them appraised and insured. You may just have a bit of a goldmine on your hands there. You can take them to an auction house, make sure they are reputable. These are really beautiful.
I think they may be Arita wares.

Theyre lovely !! Love the orient ;-)
Thanks, I am going to keep the letter and may take them to a good auction house when I am ready to let them go. What I'd love to know is what they say in Japanese. Can anyone tell me the artists name?
Any help is greatly appreciated,
John
If you follow the link vetraio gave you, you can actual contact the person who runs the website, and I believe he also has a discussion board specifically for Asian ceramics
