So on Friday I went to an estate sale. There were lots of really nice Early American pieces. The three pieces I planned on getting were snatched up by some antique dealer from the area. I still was able to get a few decent little pieces. The first being this box. It is only about 14 or 15 inches long. Very attractive and has a charming simplicity, Looks like some repairs done to the bottom near the back, but I think all hardware may be original. Handcut dovetail joints, hand cast triangular nails, all in pine. Not what I was after but nice.
Love it, it has life in it!
What a beautiful box -- I recognize the handles from the late 1700's to early 1800's. Great find!
kyratango, thanks for the comment! trunkman, I was thinking like 1820's but I like your estimate much better. Thanks!
I like those hinges. Many of the old boxes and trunks I see have had the hinges replaced at least once.
