I found this fan at an auction. Box says Tiffany & Co. A couple of little notes accompanied the box. Do any of you guys know anything about this.

This looks like a mourning fan. Are there any markings on the fan itself? Look all over, sometimes a makers mark is in the most inconspicuous place.
      It's beautiful!!

Wait.... is it black or blue? Earlier it looked black, now it looks blue. Maybe my vision is leaving me. If it's blue... disregard the "mourning" comment. lol

No markings that I can see. The picture does not show very well but the fan is definitely black. Any idea on the value if any.

      Hello, Wayne,
Gorgeous Fan,!! I'd say about 1880's or early 1890's American,
thought Tiffany Co. would Repair FANS they did not make them. Tiffany's would purchase product from overseas and sell them in their Shops.
There is a charming old storybook written in 1906 by Mignonette Violett Whelen, titled "Romances of FANLAND. published by Griffith and Rowland Press of Philadelphia, copy righted by Mrs. Charles S. Whelen.
It tells a fanciful tale of Fans from around the world which had been gathered at Tiffany of New York, for display during the 1892 Christmas Exhibit.
After store hours the Fans relate stories of their 'lives' , along with descriptions of where they came from and who had helped make them.
I do have a Fan about 1820's that was repaired by Tiffany. It has the hallmark and is a 14kt replacement Fan loop and also the rivet through the sticks was changed at the same time.
So look inside the loop for a hallmark and then go to the library and look for a book on Tiffany's Hallmarks it should be able to narrow it down to what decade.
      Good Luck,
      Alice B5 of Calif.
