Picked this up in Michigan this weekend. Had to have it as so "different".
Never heard about Tango glass. Is that what this is? Any ideas?

I don't do glass and I don't like it.............this is an exception, I love it. I have no idea what it is but thanks for posting it. You broke my rule.

This looks like a piece of glass from the 1930s that may have been decorated by the Karl 'Palda' firm which was founded in 1888...the bowl itself will be harder one to pin down as they obtained glass from a few producers... if I am wrong I am sure someone will come along and help you......at least I hope this helps with somewhere for you to start looking...:-)

I would not term this a Tango piece of glass.
      It is fabulous!

Can I ask if the decoration is painted on the outside or the inside of the vase?

I agree with the 30's idea from Inky. Also agree with V's question regarding paint in or out? Hmmm...I swear I should know this...let me crowbar my brain.

It is very hard to tell, but I think the outside is the painted side. It is a little rougher than the inside surface. The pattern is visible very well from the inside also. There is no obvious chipping on either side. And flea bites in the rim show green under the bites which really confuses me. Pattern is almost looks like air brushed paint.

It looks very German to me. In te 30s, this type of sprayed decoration was VERY used in German pottery. It's been a surprise to see it on glass. And I agree with vetraio, not Tango... but yes very beautiful!

@Inky: didn't Palda work mostly with cut and enameled glass?

It might be even a bit older. The design and application is very much one lending towards futurism, which was a short-lived art movement from the 1910s to late 20s. I agree that it probably is Continental with Bohemia/Germany being the most likey point of origin. Pretty rare and nice piece of art glass design!

I think the last comments are right on... And I am pretty close to an answer at this web site. http://www.spritzdekor.de/index.php?option=com_phocagallery&view=category&id=2&Itemid=28&lang=en

I found a pottery piece with a similar decoration... well, you just have to google spritzdecor glas and it will come out. Sadly it said nothing about its origin.
