Frogs may not be the most glamorous of critters, but they are a strong symbol of rebirth.

The first luster green mustard pot is marked with the five petaled flower and "Hand Painted Made in Japan in a circle around it. His chest is bright yellow luster and he comes with a spoon. He measures 3" tall.

The green luster condiment set has yellow lotus flower cups for the s&ps attached to the frog body base. It is marked Germany on the bottom and incised either 1924 or 7924. on the back of the frog. The pot has darker green stripes painted up his back and over his head, and the little s&ps have a blue nose and white chest. The five piece set comes with a spoon and is 3-1/4" tall and 3-3/4" deep.

The blue luster frogs in the luster blue/gold lily pad tray are all marked "Made in Japan." The base is also stamped the same, and has incised Hiragana writing which I cannot read. The pot is only 1/4" taller than the 2-1/4" s&ps and comes with a blue luster spoon. [I have also crowded a pair of gold luster frogs (not pictured) of the same design into the large lily pad.] Including its stem handle, the lily pad is nearly 4" tall.

I used to do frogs also. Still have a couple special guys. Frogs are good people.

Thanks Phil for your comments. I agree that many pieces are similar and when you accumulate, even some from Germany wind up being copied by mfrs in Japan. I especially noted this with porcelain figural powder jars.

To fhrjr2 - Other than collecting condiment sets and too much other stuff, I spend lots of time making books - I just made one for a friend all about frogs. When I finished, I was rather "frogged out." But I agree, frogs are good people.
