This is our Gae Aulenti big Pileo lamp. Yes, I say the big one because we've got two small ones that are our bedside-table lamps. I should have taken a picture of them, but then i should have tidyed up the bedroom and, let's face it, didn't feel at all like doing it... I am a awful house-husband! (can I say that as the masculine equivalent to a housewife?) In any case, the lamp on pics 1 and 2 is the Mezzo Pileo version (the small one), while that on pic 4 is the normal Pileo (the big one).
The best thing about this lamp is that you can move the helmet and give the room a completely different light... In fact this was a very trendy thing in lamp design around 1970, as we can see in the Magistretti's Eclisse and Telegono lamps... if you don't know them
please google them and you will see two of the best ever designed lamps in design history!!! (lamps that we don't have in our collections... yet ;) )
The Pileo lamp was designed in three differet versions: Pileo, the big one standing about 45 cm tall; MezzoPileo (Half Pileo), standing about 25 cm tall, and the Pileo foot lamp. You can see a promotional image of the three version on pic 3. On it you can also see some of the different ways to use it...
For those who know a bit about Italian design of the 60s/70s... yes, on pic 4 the Pileo lamp is over one of Giotto Sttopino's 1968 stackable tables for Kartell. I will one day share this item too, but I must take pictures first ;)

Ooops, I am terrible. There are big differences between the small and big versions: the small one is made of metal and the base is rotatable, whereas the big one is made out of plastic and the base does not rotate. This is why I need Carlos by my side when i post items from his (from now on OUR) collection.
Thans for your love agh and vet!
Please don't ask what am I doing awake at almost 4am... the worst thing is I must wake up at 8am :)

a true stunner!! :) wow! I really love this!!
Fantastic piece of your (joint) collection!
So sweet, Amber :) Welll, I went to bed and it still took me some time to sleep. Six hours sleeping isn't enough, and i never take a nap in the afternoon -I wake up in a terrible mood, just like little kids when wake up sulking :/- so I guess I'll spend the whole evening with semi-opened eyes...
Thanks Sean! As I told you I am looking forwrd to see your lamp. I'm sure it's a stunner too!
That's sweet racer, talking about our joint collection :)

I looked up the lamps as you suggested. Brilliant designs for sure! Thanks for sharing :)
Thanks share! I'm glad you liked them too!
Well, I guess we all here like to share our knowledge and our collections... it's very nice having them for ourselves, but I think they should be enjoyed by as much people as possible.
Another lamp you might enjoy will be DANIA, designed by Dario Tognon in 1969, also for Artemide.
