These are photos I have recently acquired of my ancestors. The first one is of my great great great grandfather's family, the first of my relatives on that line to come to America. The second picture is his son's family, my great great grandparents. The little boy in front is my grandfather's father. The third photo is my great great grandmother's family. The woman holding the baby in the second picture is the lady seated on the bottom left in the third picture. These photos range from about 1890 to to around 1901. The same woman, my great great grandmother died in childbirth in 1903. The fourth picture is her flower arrangement at her funeral. Very impressive as none of these humble Swedish immigrant families had much wealth to speak of.

Yeah I have the fortune of being the grandson of a man that has been interested in his family's history since he was little (b. 1924), and he is also a packrat lol

I am putting together a family tree going back to the old countries (Sweden, Finland, Ireland, Germany....among others), and these visuals really help to put it into more perspective and make it more real.

Very cool! I save old photos and hate when they are lost and floating around away from relatives, nice to see some where they belong :)

I did a little research into when my relatives were born. The baby girl in the first pic was born in 1884, so that would put it at about 1885. Still researching the third photo.

Great photos! Good luck with the family tree, have you tried Ancestry.com?
    6. VikingFan82 VikingFan82, 14 years ago
Yeah, obsessively haha. I have the free version so it doesnt give me a whole lot, other than a place to actually map out the family tree. I use familysearch.org to actually find records, it's pretty cool.

I only have the free version of Ancestry.com as well, but it's great that you can put up photos and scans of documents and see how the family tree comes together. I do know that the archives here in Delaware lets you go on and access everything on Ancestry.com for free. I need to take a trip there (it's an hour away) to fill in some blanks! Maybe check with your state archives to see if they offer full access?

That would be cool, I'll look into it. Familysearch.orge has scans of censuses (censi? haha), going back to 1870...I even found a marriage license. (Not the one I just posted)

Yes, very easy to die in childbirth. It can only take a few minutes to bleed out, thank you know who for modern medicine!
