Working on an article about Vaseline glass inspired me to purchase a small Chick salt from Boyd's Crystal Art Glass in Cambridge, Ohio. They stopped production about a year ago but still have a few in stock. The last photo includes a CW button for scale. Can't wait to get this under a black light!
I just started Vaseline glass collecting after finding out that Vaseline glass is not green. I posted a piece or 2 of green depression glass thinking it was Vaseline glass and the sellers had marked it Vaseline glass but it was actually uranium glass. Thought I would get some real Vaseline glass just to have real Vaseline glass. The first two pieces I got were 50s which were real Vaseline glass. But the actual authentic pieces are turn of the century pieces. Also the more authentic seem to also be EAPG. Just a beginner in this category but I am trying to figure it our before I buy.
Hi fortapache:
Vaseline glass can be green, but a lot of it is yellow (also called canary). People disagree from country to country about what the word actually means, and some don't consider a piece of glass to be "real" Vaseline if the glass has other elements in it, which can affect the color of the glass. Most people refer to Depression glass as Vaseline glass if it has uranium in it, which a lot of Depression-era glass had, but not all green Depression glass is Vaseline glass, and obviously vice versa.
Here's the article I was talking about when I posted this little piece the other day:

Great article. I struggle to write a paragraph.
Anyway I recently read that green depression glass that glows is Vaseline glass with iron oxide added to make it green.
Hi fort:
Tx for the kind words. Yes, I have also read (and heard from the folks I interviewed) that rust can be added to a batch of glass to make it more green, but the lime and/or soda in a batch can also make a big difference. It sounds like there are/were a lot of recipes out there for this stuff...
Hi Sean:
Yes! as soon as I find someone with a black light. I had one in my room back in junior high...
I have a black light flash light. Cost about $10 can be found on line.
