My 1950's Crane 'Drexel' lavatory sink.

After researching the late 20's fixtures in my spare bathroom, and from advice from an old school plumbing friend who said Crane makes the best vintage plumbing fixtures.... I came across Crane sinks from the 50's and was amazed by their style!
Crane hired famed designer, Henry Dreyfuss, to design their sinks in the 1930's. And the result was nothing short of a work of art, with names like Marcia, Diana, and Drexel to name a few...
Mine is in very good condition measuring 22" x 17" (a larger version also exists). The handles are the coupe d'état. Called Temple style by Crane. Such a beautiful MidCentury design.
Well, time to hunt down a matching one for my main bath. I really hope my future wife, whoever she is, likes the design.. Perhaps it can be a light hearted gf test...

fyi, these sinks have a flat bottoms. So, they can be wall mounted, pedestal mount (chrome legs are available), or counter mount. Mine are being counter mount, on soapstone...

Excellent selection. I also like the mounting it in soapstone idea. It will really stand out. I have soapstone but nothing that large so I have inch thick imported Italian slate from an old pool table I am polishing up for a vanity top.

None of my business but I would seal the soapstone with a high quality clear stone sealer. Soapstone is quite porous and if you spill something like Aqua Velva (blue or any color) it will bleed in and you won't ever get it out.

Quite unusual to see here but I totally love it! The design is excellent (and Dreyfuss was such a designer!)

Thanks for the comment, fhrjr2! And yes, I was wanting some cool contrast! And you're right about the soapstone being porous, so I too plan on sealing it....

austrohungaro, You're right... I didn't see a bathroom fixtures category here. Nor any other Crane sinks. and here I was going to post pics of some of my industrial soap dispensers and toilet paper holders... but not sure how to categorize industrial accessories....

Wow, I actually had a similar version of this sink. I picked it up at a local yard sale a few years ago. back then there was very little about it on the net. After researching it I found it in a book at the library on Art Deco, and like you said it was indeed designed by Henry Dreyfuss. Because I really could not use it I sold mine at auction (LAmodern auction). I have also seen a pick version for sale on 1stdibs. FII; I think mine sold for a few thousand
