10" ht., 20" long ,20 ht. original interior fabric completely in tact. Netted tray in bottom. (*Handle not original to the piece.working on it!) Plywood construction.Restored to original paint matching color Including owner initials and checkered band. All solid brass hardware single lock with key.
This is the top of a stack of five french trunks.
What a beauty!! One thing about the French trunk makers is that they seemed to use much higher quality brass hardware than the American trunk makers. Is this just my imagination or a fact?
Thanks !Lot of polishing,That seems to be the case.I remember reading somewhere that they used a different plating process that was much better.During the height of the industrial revolutionThey were only producing something like
100,000 per year out of whole the country of France. As opposed to 800,000 a year just out of M. M. Secor in America alone. Thus the rarity. Thus my interest.
