This Trunk is covered in vulcanized fibre solid brass hardware and steel brads . Beechwood or poplar slats. 21"Ht. 20"deep 20" wide. The trunk has a solid brass label that reads Malle ELYSEE' Brevetes S.G.D.G. Meaning before the pat. system in France.It is stamped on the back Made in France.I Believe that the Trunk was made By Malle Benard or Au Depart but can not be sure. as I have seen similarities in both manufacturers.The Trunk was found in Maryland 6 years ago. The Front covering was almost completely missing.I recreated the covering using the recipe I found from 1870s. Mixing wood putty, wood glue, varnish,cotton fibre and paint for color. The trunk is must
have been repaired at one time.Louis Vuitton( Possibly by Vuitton not sure) latches were used and a lock
that is from another trunk. The interior contains two trays one being a basket. Interior ribbon basically in tact with brass studying.There are over
22 original stickers from around the world. All from only the finest hotels.Sticker on top of sticker The lady that owned this trunk was a woman of means who extensively traveled(If I only Knew who?).The finest staterooms and Train and steamships of the time period in both europe and the states. Speaking of trunks being able to talk. What stories would this one have to tell? That's a very cool trunk and you did an amazing job bringing her back to life.
Drill, I have a French cube that's covered in canvas with leather trim. It's pretty dirty and has a lot of travel stickers on it. What would you use to clean that canvas, without compromising the travel stickers? I still haven't figured out how to go about that.
