This rare Red and Blue VICO sign came from the collection of the late Chick Spence of SLC Utah. VICO Oil was produced by the Utah Oil Refining Company of Utah which began in 1909 and was later sold to Utah Oil Company. The Utah Oil Company was partly owned by the Midwest refining Company and later became UTOCO. While VICO was the Oil that was produced, the gas was the Pep 88 Brand which was sold throughout Utah and Idaho. When the Utah Oil Refining Company began in 1909 they only produced about 7 barrels of Kerosene per day and a very little oil. Very little research soon tells one that the Oil and Gas business was a very incestuous business with the same "family" names appearing over and over again. It is sort of like the banking business in America where the Big 13 Banks control about everything in finance and Politics. In the oil business in American we have a handful of "big fish" that eventually seem to always eat the smaller fish in the sea. I guess that's how the big fish seem to always get bigger and bigger? Just like fish in the ocean that will grow as long as they live and have food to eat, the oil companies seem to continue to grow based upon oil and cash reserves. If they don't have enough oil they just buy someone else's oil! Pretty simple concept when lack of money is not a problem. Isn't American wonderful?
