Antiques dating from the late 1800s into the early 1900s, however, have priced themselves out of the market for the average collector. There are many, many collectibles worth hundreds of dollars each and others bring in prices well into the thousands at auction.
All good stuff above from a couple seasoned veterans of Coca-Cola collecting. Here's an article with some interesting content which may help you understand the market. Good luck!

Disagree completely with that statement. A shrewd and KNOWLEDGEABLE collector can find an abundance of bargains. The key is to STUDY and truly understand what you collect (or what you want to collect). Bargains can be found EVERY DAY if you do you work (online or in person).
This site is full of treasures bought on the cheap.

Right on, scott. That's what I love about CW, one can find the unfiltered truth here straight from collectors based on actual experiences. Not some canned blather from an "antiques expert".
... with all due respect to Bigsarge... er, Ms. Wiggins.
If I may, I believe collectors also buy what they like. For example, some old tray designs from the 30's are not my cup of tea (or glass of Coke), but after that and before the 80's I love. Even some more recent ones are good (for me) if the subject is appealing. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
As said by others, this forum is great for all collectors. Do the research or just get lucky and the money spent can be well worth while.
I raise an icey cold glass bottle of Coca Cola to all collectors.
