This is another coin from the same widow who's selling her late husband's collection. She had a fake 1800 Bust Dollar, which I posted yesterday and found out it was a fake. How about this one? I didn't realize there actually were fake Seated Liberty dollars going around.

This doesn't look real. Anything from this collection should be suspect. In China, if they can get more than 50 cents wholesale for an item, they will counterfeit it. They even make counterfeit Chapstick for goodness' sake.

I have no idea but wondered why Dollar wasn't spelled out.

No expert on American coins but a side by side comparison with a genuine coin shows how poorly this copy has been executed. The detail and quality just isn't there. This poor ladies husband must have known they weren't real if he was a collector.

TubeAmp, these days on eBay, they ship free from China and the Chinese government reimburse the shipping cost to the seller. It's like how we subsidize farmers and got the corn market cornered, sorry I went off the wrong way. Bigsarge, that's how the original was made and who knows what they were thinking 160 years ago. Also, your 1909 VDB without S is still highly collectible. Gracay2004, I'm going to go kill myself now....

Probably not necessary to kill yourself over this one unless you shelled out a fortune without telling the other half. In fact if you haven't told her she will almost certainly do it for you!
Here's hoping you hit pay-dirt the next time!
      Regards William.

Thanks Computopia, I am not a real coin collector. I gave it up many years ago when I realized I was being over charged. So I did hold on to most of them or those the kids did not take away from me. When I say your 1909 I remembered having one and dug it out. I noticed look at Ebay the price for it is all over the place. It was graded when I got it so they said, once done does it have to ever be redone?

By the way if it is true I am sorry for your loss.

Bigsarge, if your 1909 VDB Penny was graded, I don't think you need to grade it again. There are some people send their coins to be re-graded if they feel that it should be graded better but those are for really expensive coins, I'd think. The value of your coin would depend on the grade it has. I guess it could go all the way from a few dollars up to even a few hundred if the grade is high enough. As far as my bad purchase, I done forgotten about it already. Thanks for your kind words.
