When was that time when cute kittens wore long dresses and pinafores and blue dungarees, gave bouquets of roses to each other and chatted about the best places to procure some catnip. Let me answer that: it was the 1970s. Everybody had more fun then, including species cross-dressing kittehs.
I loved these little vintage porcelain figurines the moment I laid eyes upon them- small enough to roll around in your hand, and charming enough to collect dust on your bookshelf. Made in Japan, but sold in San Francisco, as the label under their feet is: Takahashi San Francisco. I imagine it to be a sort of touristy shop selling all sorts on you-didn't-know-you-needed-but-now-ya-do for the visiting masses, and this pair of cats waited among the shelves, to be scooped up by an eager tourist, to be nestled in a pocket of an overstuffed suitcase on the return home.
They ended up, many years later in a charity shop in Seattle, still in fine shape, and quite mum about whatever ensuing adventures.
cute!!!
The Japanese were so good at the anthropomorphic vegetable and humanised animal - all cute, some just weird!
Keep collecting them - they will keep you young and happy!!
