Picked this lovely vase up at VOA today. The National Thrift Store Day sale had pretty much emptied the store of anything worth while except clothes. It will take them a week or so to recover and restock the shelves. This was on the showcase wall and it caught my eye immediately. Sometimes there are good things that show up right after the sales. I think they keep them aside on purpose and trickle them out day by day. Clearly signed, and labeled can't ask for much more. No clue as to the translation of the mark it's not on Gotheborg's site. Toyo is just the importer/exporter. Not terribly old but stunning ! -Mike-

      So so beautiful Mike.
As soon as I saw the thumbnail I was entranced.
Is Toyo here the same company as Toyo glass I wonder? Similar font but I know Toyo is a town and a not uncommon Japanese name so they may well be unrelated.

Thanks Karen :)... I love it's Art Nouveau look and I think crocus are rather unusual. I don't know about Toyo, I believe they are just the importer/exporter. I do remember reading about Toyo glass though.

Thanks for all the info Jim :)..... I think I might run this by Paul on the "Collecting Chinese Porcelain " site. Even though it's Japanese he will still comment on it and maybe translate the mark.

Honestly id I don't think it looks like either Kutani or Satsuma, looks more like and art nouveau design from the turn of the century. I guess the gilding gives it one vote for Kutani though.

I would say 100%...lol ....although the gold is a bit worn and fogged in places it just photographs really bright. I think it would look really good with these :
