Usually, when a sign has a copyright year, that usually means its the year the sign was made. So I would say that the sign is highly likely that it could be from 1917. The black part I think it a chalk board, and the service station could write gas prices, a date, oil change prices, and other ads on it. It's very unusual to me, I mean, it's got the cartoonish fingers on the sides. It looks to be porcelain, so it was made to last for years,. Found this,

It turns out en-ar co. "national refining co." had a mascot or theme to there advertising. It's called, "boy holding a slate", that explains the cartoonish fingers on the side. These would hang at en-ar co. service stations and say a funny line like "Geometry must be studied at all angles" or "Love is a sweet dream, marrige is the alarm clock", I was wrong about the gas prices and ads. Your sign appears to be mssing the boy's head and feet, probably both 2 differant pieces. By an educated guess, I would say in that condition, it's worth a couple hundred dollars, more or less. If the other two are in that good of shape, man, you made a great find for dumpster diving!
thank you very much! cocacolakid97. i know it is supposed to have the head and feet because a friend of mine has the same sign with the head but hes missing the feet i found 3 of these signs all in the same condition im sure there are many more where i found them ive got 7 signs out of the dump so far and am going back in the morning to get some more. thanks for the help
Where is this dump? Sounds like an old one. I want to get into the action...
its here in coshocton ohio where all of these signs were made. a guy i met said that he had cleaned them all out but me and my dad stoped at the old dump and there were many more that he must have missed

Just think if it were all there. It's still a great sign and hard to find.
