There is a little plaque on it that has the markings " Estate of James H. Topham maker Worthington Nc.." I can't see the rest it was painted over.
It seems to belonged to Capt. Walter J. Petersen of 143 FA
American Expeditionary Force
from what I know the AEF was in .... WWI.
Anyone know about trunks?
The 143d F A (Field Artillery Regiment was out of California and was established just before the start of WWI as part of the 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. It earned Campaign Participation Credit in every war from the Spanish-American War to the Korean War, and then again in Operation Iraqi Freedom. It has also helped in various prison riots and wildfires in California.
Thanks for the info VF82!
you're welcome.
