Native American wrapped in a blanket and photographed in the carte de visite format in the 1880s.
Photographer is Barthelmess and Schofield, known photographers of Western Native Americans.
The image has period ink ID of "John, War Chief, Navahoe tribe of Indians, New Mexico, U.S."
The subject looks familiar to be, but I haven't been able to pinpoint this particular man. Any help is appreciated.

Scott I am really enjoying your images of Native Americans, even if they are so poignant.
He is quietly proud, but perhaps knows what is coming for his people.
I see a lot of parallels between the fate of your native people and ours here, and photos from this era of Australian Aboriginals brings much the same emotion.
Thanks. Karen
