Pinks, greens, and gilt gold adorn this beautiful Japanese Woman. No makers marks. Wondering what the figure is called? What type of garb she is wearing? Is she royalty? How old possibly she is? Does anyone know possibly the maker? I am just so in love with her. Cant remember the last time I saw a more beautiful Japanese woman with stunning turquoise "blue eyes"........Any advise would be welcome. Thank you......

The colors are really stunning on your piece. I just acquired one that is by the same maker - I am pretty certain. She also has the two lanterns but color is primarily Black and gold gilding only (beside pink skin and red lips ) on white porcelain and stands 10 inches. Markings on bottom include Japan. Did you find much information on your collectable? I realize the post is 8 years old but thought I would share some info of my recent similar find. thanks....

MyFabFinds, Do share what you know. :-)

FYI, I used Google Lens to look for a twin, and found one on eBay that described it as a "Wales Vintage Asian Figurine":

      https://www.ebay.com/itm/384182375603

There are quite a few Wales porcelain figurines out there, and this porcelain marks website has more information:

      *snip*

The New York Merchandise Co., Inc. was a company which imported and distributed ready-made items from various unnamed manufacturers located in Japan. They specialized on relatively cheap tableware, miniature tea sets and figures, re-selling them under their WALES CHINA brand. As far as I could find out, the company existed through the 1960s and closed around 1970. They never claimed the rights on first renewal of the marks, hence the registrations were later automatically removed from the USPTO registry.

'Wales China' stickers are sometimes found on items marked either with a printed or inmold (raised) crossed swords mark plus the printed addition 'Bone China Lace'. Like all other items that carry a 'Wales China' sticker, they of course represent items created *for* the 'New York Merchandise Co., Inc.' by another company. I have listed some mark examples in the unidentified company section under the handle 'Bone China Lace'.

      *snip*

      https://www.porcelainmarksandmore.com/related/usa/newyork-07/index.php

      Some Wales trademarks:

      https://trademarks.justia.com/716/39/wales-71639950.html

      https://trademarks.justia.com/716/55/wales-71655687.html

      https://trademarks.justia.com/720/06/wales-china-72006127.html

As to the style of the figurine itself, my sense of it is not Japanese, but perhaps a Thai, Cambodian, or even Balinese dancer.

Wow thank you keramikos for all that information and the tips on how you located the twin. Great information, snips and advice!

I think you covered way more than I could offer outside of some pictures of my piece. The only way to post pictures is through the Show and Tell area I understand?

Again thanks for the details - Awesome contribution.
