Was at an estate sale here in Northern Michigan at a home that I can only perceive as being owned by a very eccentric personality. I don't know much on the the history of the piece except as I just mentioned. Am hoping to to find out the style and general era of the rocker. Although it was listed as a "Mission" style rocker. But I have looked at thousands of pics of Mission Rockers and have seen none with the curved arms and the spindled front legs so, this leaves me wondering.
I have recently been into refinishing furniture and actually just finished my first rocker today. Which brings me to wondering about this one, as I have been told that sometimes refinishing pieces can actually devalue the piece.
The seat is removable and is held in place with metal bracket pieces and has been recovered I'm sure but the finish looks original. There looks to be no polyurethane or shellac. I do have more pictures if needed. Any info is welcome and most appreciated.
Thanks Phil for the response. All great suggestions but getting that info seems nearly impossible at this point. Well, will just keep digging and see what I turn up. If I may ask, what is your opinion on the refinishing decision?
I have looked for markings of any kind but I have not found any.
