This little gem came from Volunteers of America. It's a small round vase with a tiny tapered neck. The body is painted with a pair of beautiful pigeons with a floral background. Sadly the rim of the neck has a chip and a chunk out of it. The glue is darkened and hard so it's going to be difficult to try and take it apart and clean it. The pieces of the neck might respond to a soak in hot water to release them. Then they could be replaced much neater, but I don't know if I want to try that. It's unmarked on the bottom so I have no clue as to the date. There is very fine crazing of the pretty blue matte glaze which you can see in bright sunlight. I'm thinking it's Japanese maybe the Meiji era (1868-1912) judging from the style of painting. I have another little Meiji vase with sparrows on it that looks like the same type of painting. A nice little piece despite the damage. -Mike-

Thanks Katherine....it's gone on to a new owner now. My professor friend bought it about two weeks ago from my booth at the co-op. He loved it too ! :)
The birds are beautiful and I love the blue of the base.
