I'm doing an initial wipe down of a tin covered monitor trunk and the entire thing has what looks like a pattern. I thought it was oxidation but it almost looks like a gilded color around each whitish spot. It goes under the hardware and it is fairly consistent. What is it? V
Good question. I have understood this to be intentionally done for a "tortoise" effect. Chemically treated tin, which over time does start to eat into the tin. Since I am only a novice at this I hope some helpful contributor can set us both straight. I have seen this effect often and have had it on a few of my trunks.
Nice trunk! , really cool the term "Mottled"comes to mind I'll try to post pics this week of this exact trunk in great shape .I just have to dig it out of the garage.
