Thank you. I do love the frame. Thanks for the suggestions on repairing it.
Thanks so much for the feedback. Appreciated!
Thanks. I wasn't aware that 100 years is the timeline. Now I am. I thought maybe handheld because by looking it looks like there are some inconsistencies. I guess I could measure with a caliper if I r...
Thank you. I think we all agree that it is not handcrafted. I would however think that 1929 would be considered antique. I must be mistaken. i always thought antique was 50 years old or older.
Thanks for the first chuckle all week. I'm not quoting Google. I do know some basic woodworking but asked a pretty specific question and received feedback that the piece was not 1929 although there ar...
Traditional woodworking is traditional woodworking. Those terms as you say are not interchangeable no matter where I come from. If I was told to cut a rabbet into a panel and I cut a groove/dado it'd...
I am wondering what made you think the piece was made years after 1929. Mortise and tenon gives a clue and certainly machine made furniture dates back to the 1860's. I'm certainly learning from this ...
I am not trying to place monetary value on it. It's an heirloom and therefore priceless. I was trying to find out if it was machine or hand made. I had the question because my great grandfather was a...
Wouldn't a rabbet be an area at the edge of the board? I would think that this cradle has either a dado or a groove.
I have seen authenticated cradles with slats, yes. You had asked about the joints. They are all mortise and tenon.
I'm not sure if I can add additional photos the legs have slits and the rockers simply fit into the slits. There is no hardware involved anywhere on it. . I've seen other cradles that date back to tur...
Thanks for the info. I'm hopeful it'll clean up nicely.
Thanks!
I'm first trying to envision the finished product so I know where to begin. There's a fair amount of rust so I imagine there will be tons of prep. Locks/latches appear to work and thankfully there's...
Thank you so much for the feedback. I will look into that oil. There is a lot of rust on the black tin edges. I may have no choice but to repaint it. First restore project and I paid next to nothing f...
Ohhh I'd love to see any you have that have a similar design!
I am wiping some of the grime off this trunk and the tin either has some really weird oxidation going on or there is a speckled pattern. It appears to go under the hardware. Has anyone ever seen this?...
Thank you both for the input!!!!
Thanks for the feedback. I've taken a bit of oil Soap and the slats are a beautiful oak underneath in what looks to be great condition. The alligator parts are confusing me. It looked like a lot of r...
Great suggestions. Thank you so much.
This trunk definitely slopes from front to back and side to side. It has a high point in the center for sure. This is barrel ? I so appreciate all the feedback and will hopefully start cleaning it u...
It's definitely leather. Just wondering how to take care of/clean/condition it.
Thank you. I wish there was a key for the lock. Is there anything that should be done with the canvas for restoration, or is a simple clean all it would need? Sorry for so many questions.
Out of curiosity...what makes this trunk seem of higher quality? Is it the hardware, materials, style? I don't know much about these trunks (yet). This one to me of course is priceless...
trunkman and trunkingforfun, Thank you so much for your input. It is very appreciated. I am hoping to clean it up and make it look as nice as it can without doing much to it. Thanks for the tips...
The item in the fourth picture is a compartment tray that lifts out of the inside of the trunk. In my other post I did not include it so that the condition of the inside of the trunk could be seen. ...
Thank you! I am hopeful that someone will be able to provide some additional information. I think it's in pretty good shape. I'd like to just clean it up and replace missing handles, etc. I don't...
