    This was given to me as a gift today. I have no idea what it is, neither did the people who gave it to me. I have some guesses, but no definite answer. I could be a piece of a larger item, or something by itself. It is early though. Thanks!

      It covered an opening on a round wooden object (barrel or drum). The open hook went into an eye hook, the closed loop is the handle. The cut slit is where a hasp went though to secure it when it was closed. Exactly what that drum or barrel was used for, I don't know.
