Hi,
I recently purchased the above pocket watch simply because I like them. I have quite a few in my collection and all of them I can find information online about them from various sources.
I am not interested in value only facts about the watch.
What I think I know:
Made by Jupiter - Montre De Precision - Swiss Made
Serial number - 1448930 5201
Apparent Arabic engraving - see image
5 gold/bronze coins engraved within the watch - see image
I would really just appreciate a little history for this watch, the maker, the era etc.
Kind regards,
Victor Faulkner
There were quite a few watch brands with the name Jupiter in Switzerland, but this one is definitely a Jupiter from Cortebert. Cortebert was a large factory that made very good watch movements.
It is for sure a Cortebert movement but I'm not wich type. Cortebert even provided watch movements to Rolex in the 1900's. But the Russian Molnija movements are also copys of Cortebert movements.
I have an example of the same watch with British military marking EC 3222. I was told by a friend who knew Arabic that the script is pronounced 'shoopitair', which sounds to me very like 'Jupiter'.
