Almost came home empty handed today but Volunteer's provided this nice piece of Satsuma. The barrel shape makes me think this was either a tea canister or a water jar. The top rim has a sunken recess so it definitely had a top which was probably flat with a small knob or loop on it. There are two beautifully done figural panels on each side separated by a decorative side panel. Lots of raised enamel and gold typical of Satsuma. The tiny squiggle mark on the bottom shows up on Gotheborg's site as mark #900. The only information about the mark is that it's Japanese export from the mid to late 1920's. Pretty nice for a couple of dollars even without the lid. -Mike-
Thanks Ken.... No point in trying to sugar coat something. It is what it is. Besides I like everything I buy no matter what the pedigree and try to pass on whatever info my research turns up.
