I bought this plate from a church sale,I don't know if it's Chinese or Japanese, really a beautiful plate, but I would love to know what it's called or who the makers are,all handpainted edges are thin glazed over except the edge of the bottom rim as shown in picture, hope someone can help.
i am not thinking either - these was a period late 1800's where europe copied the oriental as in chinoiserie and japonisme- this i think is an imari copy (not an expert please only my thoughts - i love oriental and am studying them, so may be wrong) - chinese and japanese are all hand painted - and well done . i do think it has age but as i said just my ho

Thanks Kat22,it is all hand painted,I've looked at some other plates but still can't find one like mine but I will continue to search
WOW! thanks so much idcloisonne! almost identical to my plate,I love this site!! again thanks1
google Imari , there are many dishes like this, I've owned quite a few, still have some! Most were made around 1850 or earlier ,Imari was a booming town with a huge pottery business famous for these colors! And the scalloped edges and cartouche type inset sections are really what identifies it as Imari.
Thanks antiquefreek so very much!!!!!
well what was the conclusion here , because i don,t understand the assessment ?
Thanks Kat22!
ok i stay out of this, this is strangest assessment i have seen in a few years,
cute charger
apostata I believe the conclusion is Imari around 1850 or earlier
i should have stayed out this my excuses i only make enemies this way , rather hypocrital of me
i don,t know precisly what the statement is of kat 22 or idcloisonne, but let,s do some assumptions
if you take the point of vieuw pre late EDO periode (1850), IMO, is an imari 3 color elaborate kyoho point of vieuw , well the six -sun is different , and if the kyoto period point of , you need garlands on the reverse of the plate( pursui flowers or ribbons) and no luster radiation
IMO they try to represent a turn of the century imari ( +-1900 ) but something strange is going on , it is presse trough ware ( type of transfer) see double ring obverse , there is no stroking in the fluidum of the rings
the strange thing is the lack of corrosion on the reverse bottom stand ( so called rotten straw corrosion ) and it is strange the double ring on the reverse is missing . and there are no garlands, and it is heavy potting , and there are dispersion marks on the reverse
so i think they wanted to represent a turn of the century ( 1900) but it looks more like a peoples republic of china period
correction you need luster radiaton for the kyoho period IMO
apostata I will never be your enemy.I'm learning myself.thank you.I'm not an expert I welcome comments abd corrections.
