NoIdeaWhat…
(1 item)
Greetings, all. The item in question is 3'0H x 1'4"(at bottom)L x 0'9"D. It is a chest of 5 drawers that get progressively smaller as the piece narrows to a length of 8" at the top. Made out of wood and held together with nails. There are no factory markings, stamps, or anything else that would lead me to believe that it was mass-produced. From the pictures, you can see that every surface (except the back and bottom) are covered with these stylized human figures.
Piece was purchased at a garage sale in Naperville, IL, but I can't imagine that would help place its origin. The age/condition of the wood suggests (at least) pre-1950 to me.
I've also tagged it as Native American just as a blind guess.
What is this thing?!
It's an Indonesian import, that started showing up on the market about 10-15 years ago.
Gah! I knew the answer would be much less exotic than I'd hoped. Thanks so much for helping me out here.
