I doubt if you could get a glass vase that spoke Japanese more than this one, and that is from someone with lots of very Japanese glass!
Made from black glass it has then been spattered with a mix of reds and yellows that when laid over the black have created colours like brown and green.
Lines of gold have then been applied over the spatter and the whole lot has then been cased in clear.
One of the things I have noticed with the Japanese is that they have almost always covered spatter in clear, whether to give the colour more intensity or to have a very smooth finish I don't know.
The shape is a very traditional "urn" and very typical of many Japanese ceramic vases.
I have now found out that this vase was made by Kurata Glass.
I'm sorry my photos are so poor. This vase really is quite glorious in a very colourful but majestic way.
Height 28cm (11in)
