This pitcher is for wine, the mouth is open so it would no protect the water from getting cold, and the motif recalls the night with a bird of nocturnal habits, besides you know, owls represents knowledge. Is for the hour of having dinner, drinking wine and chating after a day or rude work. But the shape seems jugendstil, a deco with soft lines. I coul not find nothing similar on internet so I conclude this is an original work. Here the most common wine pitcher is a pinguin. With this piece I conclude with my collection of La Riojana art work. I display them in over a very antique shelf
http://cf.collectorsweekly.com/stories/34FY9dHav.5vveOSZ3dO8Q.jpgm that I would try to describe in another post. The shelf is over the old marquetry table. Thanks to all that give me joy with commentaries, like Sean, vetraio, fhrjr2, Scottvez and so on about the old table.
THIS IS FAB!!
Love old pitchers!
I am really flattered by the compliments, thanks Sean and Virginia
This is just beautiful... very powerful lines. I had some good fun looking for something like it...
