My mother found this little fellow in my grandmothers things and is in love with him! He seems to be pretty old and made of some sort of real animal fur. The tag on the foot says it was from the Baer company but I cannot seem to find any informatiion about it anywhere! I frequent every thrift shop and antique store in my area and love learning new things about vintage items, but Im getting very frustrated with the dead ends I'm hitting. Any information about the Baer company would be much appreciated!
He is a newer artist bear . Many doll artists make these . It is not a mass produced company . And not old :-( bear by Baer is hand made mark I suspect the artists name is Baer .

Haha Manikin, you're pretty far off.
My Grandmother made this Bear. Her (our) last name is Baer. She is still living, but hasn't made any Bears in about twenty years. This one is probably 30-35 years old. She made it here, in Newport, RI. Over the years she made hundreds of these Bears, all with real fur (usually sourced from yard sale coats) Many were distributed to friends and family. Between her children and grandchildren we still probably have 100. They were also sold at Flea Markets and similar places here in Rhode Island as well as in southern Massachusetts. Every couple years it seems like I see one of the Bears pop up online -- usually on ebay -- and its always interesting to see where they are. Looks like this one isn't too far from home. Wherever it ends up..I hope it gets a good home!
well I did say the name Baer was name of artist and by newer means not antique , Wonderful you found out ,glad to hear it .Apparently you should have known she made them since your last name is same :-) It is still a contemporary bear and artist made as I said not factory .
I think you knew your Grandma made it so what was point of your post?
Umm...I think you have me confused with the person who made this page.
I did misread your first post, however, and thought "He" was referring to the artist and not the teddy bear...and 'newer' of course is relative. I obviously missed what you were saying and that is clear going back and reading it now.
I just wanted to give a little info.
Also, to the original poster, I believe I saw you speculate in your etsy ad that the Bear is fox fur? I know fox and mink were two of the furs she used most so that is quite likely the case.
Angus yes I thought when I saw your remark it was posters which made no sense to post a mystery if your last name was Baer . And Of coarse no one could ever know every Bear artist there were and still are thousands of them my good friend is one also . Well you can be proud she made such nice quality bears . To Poster sorry we got your post mixed up but you have a answer :-)
Just to add some info in case anyone reads this. I determinted through family members that it it most definitely mink. Turns out she never worked with fox fur -- I was mistaken there.
