This is a thrift store find....Wooden barrel, wooden stand, cast iron wheels.
My first assumption was wine press, due to the wheels.
Then I saw a butter churn, NO WHEELS!
What exactly is it?

I've got absolutely no idea but love it...looks really interesting..great find!...:-)
im thinking it is a butter churn that somebody converted to run off some kind of motor or a water / wind mill
The size of those cast pulley wheels say barrel washing machine.
Possibly Chippenham or repro, made in England originally.
I did a little more research on this piece and I found out that this is a butter churn....made in 1890 by J.Mcdermaid. Its also listed in the 1894 Sears and Roebuck catalog. This type of churn could be ordered then with or without the pulley, depending on the size of the barrel....Back then people used lambs and dogs on a treadmill attached to churns pully to flip the barrel at a certain pace. thank-you for your input...it encouraged me to learn more about the history of churns! ?:-
i thought it was a butter churn from designs that we see in old farmhouses and museums over here in Ireland could u please put up the link about lambs and dogs used to power these would love to read it, heard of horse power but never lamb or dog power lol thanks
