Hello,
My wife recently purchased this ceramic monkey at auction - they described it as being Burmantofts in style. However we can't find anything similar from Burmantofts. We have found similar designs being listed as French Majolica, and even Japanese - but I don't trust the authority of those listings.
I have included a shot of the base (monkey3.jpg) - there are no markings - and also a couple of unglazed patches?
The colour comes out more blue in the photo - it's actually more turquoise in real life. We were at Saltaire today, where they have a large collection of Burmantofts in the Hockney Gallery and the blue of the monkey is definitely the same 'blue' as the Burmantofts on display.
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
Hi , I have exactly thee same monkey , identical to yours , even the unglazed marks on the bottom , did u ever find out any more about it
