I purchased this vase from Japan and was advised by the seller that it was produced locally but he could not remember the maker.
Cameo glass has been popular in Japan for a long time and I see a lot for sale there.
The typical Galle copies and derivatives are evident but so are many others, like this one.
It's a very attractive sand worked glass vase and very well made.
For me it has a very Japanese shape and the style and scale of the picture feel Japanese too.
It is unsigned and has no sticker.
I can't be sure who made it, although it may be another vase by Joetsu Crystal as they have long produced quality sand blasted glass. However cameo style glass is produced by a number of well respected Japanese artists.
Truth is though, it may not even be Japanese!
Height 24cm (9.5in)
UPDATE
I am now sure this is Japanese, and the style is very Kitaichi, so I am now attributing this to the northern glass house of Kitaichi.
stunning!!
But it is certainly exquisite.
Thanks Sean the sweet! Always so quick and positive.
Thank you too Peggy. I am acquiring a real love and appreciation of Japanese glass and I think I'm spreading the love! It's easy when their glass is like this one yeah?
I love the color amazing
This is so pretty!
It's gorgeous Kare, how lovely are these colours..I can see why the Japanese like the style. It's reminiscent of many of Japanese aspects..it also has the look of satin or Moriage without the dots..just stunning..wouldn't it be nice to be a Galle..
So very very very beautiful! I'm lost for words, don't know what to say. Wow!!
Thank you Flowergirl! This one suits your pretty name.
Jewels pretty as always and thanks!
Anne I'm glad you like it....and to be honest I'm glad Galle isn't on it because I could be pretty sure then it was a copy instead of an original. Thanks!
Lovely compliment Elisabethan.! I'm glad you see it's beauty. Thank you!
Thanks also to all who have loved!
I appreciate your comment Lisa because if you can see the Japanese style here too I am happy!.
It is relaxing and beautiful in that Japanese way.
a magic swamp
Thanks Kivatinitz....I'm smiling.
A beauty!
Thank you for your love and kind words Agram.
Wow that's beautiful!
Thanks Kanook, it remains a favorite.
Since I posted this I have learnt more about Japanese cameo glass and am pretty sure this is Kitaichi Glass. Karen
Oh wow Karen! Another beauty. You're fast converting me to Japanese! :)
Thanks Fran. The indoctrination attempt continues..!...
AWSOME racer love it cool colours ;-)
Thanks for that SD
Hi Karen how is the picture done is it done by sandblasting layers?
Yes, or possibly acid etching the layers. In the past Japanese cameo was done by hand and with sand, it’s likely done by stencil marking and acid now.
This being a piece less than 20 years old and from a company not a solo artist it’s probably acid etched.
you nailed it kid , well done
