I found this Satsuma Egg today for a great price and I'm hoping it's authentic! I don't know the markings on it but there is a #8 in the triangle.
It's a little over 6" tall and so pretty. When I looked them up, I saw they go for well over $200.00
Am I right? And is this American Satsuma?
Thanks for any input!
Wow! I vote authentic! Look at how beautifully painted!
Thanks Jewels, now all of a sudden I can't post the other things I found! UGH! Sometimes I'd like to toss this darn computer right out the window!!! ;)
Aww :/ I can understand that very well! I bought three sterling and torquoise rings today and I took a pic with my iPad and man, the contrast is so crazy that it would hurt eyes!
lol...My camera is goin' on the blizt too...If I use the flash, it literally has smoke coming out of the lense!!! Crazy huh?
Well, I got my computer to do what I wanted it to do just now!
I spelled it wrong...Blitz!
Ha! Smoke coming out of the lens? :/
Wow Sue this is gorgeous.
Surely authentic with the quality and stamp, but I'll let the experts confirm!
It's beautiful Sue and a nice size too. I have one as well that I posted ages ago. It's a bit smaller and I believe a bit newer than the one you have.

It's a very pretty piece, I love it, the detail is wonderful. I really don't know anything about Satsuma, my eyes tell me quality.
Thank you Karen, Mike and Pease for the nice comments and loves! I appreciate it.
Phil David, Surfdub,Attwood Moonstone and Agh for all the loves :)
Thanks Ron :)
Thanks Mani & Surfdub!!!
Love this beautiful egg !!! :-)
;) Me too, but it's gotta fly the coup! lol
What you have is a Satsuma "style" egg, probably chinese made. Real antique Satsuma was created and made in the Meiji Period (1868-1912), Japan didn't start using english lettering until the 1940's. Antique Satsuma has hand painted makers marks in kanji script (usually with the Shimazu family crest at the top-cross in circle) . Antique Satsuma is known for a warm beige crackle finish and comparitively minimal decoration. Around the 1970's other countries started mass producing fakes like Royal Satsuma, Gold Satsuma and Satsuma-Made in China. My best advice, if you like it, keep it! (if you want some cool history, google the Shimazu Satsuma Clan)
Thank you kutanicollector for all the great info. I will be able to really read up on that soon. Holiday rush has me runnin'!!! Thanks.
who am i but i don,t confirm, the stamping of the word satsuma is a shut out , and the district number is an complete shut out .so it is something like 1970
Thx apostata, I still have this!
