Looks like an early 1900's trunk. The hinges appear to be original... they are fitted for the trunk and have original rivets... replacement ones are usually screwed in and not form fitted like these. Here is a conversation about restoration on a similar trunk... http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/62627-my-trunk-that-needed-help-got-it-trunk

Most interesting is the "White Star Line" label and Titanic painted on it.

The fun "Titanic" logo is clearly a much later addition as the base of the lettering of it is painted on the wood of the trunk where the canvas had already long worn off... cheers to sbryne for dismissing its importance on this post! White Star Line sticker most likely legit as there were many ships of course with this label...

I would have no idea what was on the Titanic, just thought it interesting.
The letters were painted on a long time ago as they do appear to have weathered with the leather. It is obvious the base of the letters have repainted back on.

Never thought of that scenario... good call AzTom... I would agree...

At 1st glance, I thought it was "PMS Titanic"! LOL. PMS: When women act the way men do all the time. Sorry staff!
Going to follow this to see what decisions are made on restoring.

I agree its been touched up didn't think it would be titanic but the man I brought it from said it was one of the sister ships I was thinking RMS Britannic. who knows lol a good talking piece when visitors come by

I don't think restore would be the right word I want know what to use to clean it up, leave what is left of label, putting a glass top on. for me personally makes it more interesting what do you think

Just clean it up.. that's the look right now.

This is a fun trunk and my advice is to feel free to do what you think you would like on it... it is not a high value trunk so it is your canvas.... think of where you would place it and then how it would look best there.
