It's been two years since I wrote an article with the help of Senior Editor Ben Marks of Collector Weekly about my visit to the only jewelry museum in the world in Pforzheim, Germany. You can read this article with beautiful pictures of some of the antique jewelry once admired through the link:
    http://www.collectorsweekly.com/articles/treasures-of-the-incomparable-pforzheim-jewelry-museum/
A few weeks ago I visited for the second time after the impressive rebuilding our national museum in Amsterdam (our capital) the RIJKSMUSEUM.
Besides the truly magnificent historic building and the huge art collection of a large number of famous Dutch painters, to name a few:
Rembrandt (WITH THE NACHTWACHT also admired by your president Barack Obama) Vincent van Goch, Johannes Vermeer. This time I'm gone to see the special collection of antique jewelry present.
I leave you hereby a few photos. Of course, this collection is not as large and extensive as in Pforzheim still quite nice and a small selection of different periods in time. And my trip was really worth it.

The first picture is a brooch made by Augusto Castellani Alessandro Castellani, ca. 1860 - 1875. Made of gold and glass. It has the shape of a Greek cross with a mosaic executed in Greek inscription: 'light' and 'life'.

I really!!! like the first one...very smart me thinks!...can just see it on a nice tailored suit or jacket...all lovely!...:-)

Only you inky! How do you know it is "on a nice tailored suit or jacket"? Must be where imagination kicks in. If I'm not comatose when Bob leaves, I'll give a ring. He brought another batch of brownies! He has become a legion!

inky, if I had this brooch really in my possession, I would like to wear it and as you say on a nice jacket or something. But because of the preciousness I'd be afraid to lose. This brooch is after all, a masterpiece of the master, also in the field of Micro Mosaic, Castellani. But thank you for spontaneous fun comment!

Fantastic to see such treasures. Do you know the significance of the Greek letters on the Castellani Brooch?
    17. Agram.m Agram.m, 10 years ago
kiwipaul, thanks for your comment. And yes I know the significance of the Greek letters on the Castellani Brooch. This brooch in the shape of a Greek cross with a mosaic executed in Greek inscription: 'light' and 'life'.
    18. kiwipaul kiwipaul, 10 years ago
Very cool, presume this refers to John 8:12 - Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the Light of Life"

      Micro-mosaic image 1.
Phos Zoe Cross is comprised of the Greek cross acting as a type of ancient crossword with the words PHOS (“light”) and ZOE (“life”). The crossed words reflect the crucified Christ, proclaiming him as the “Light” (PHOS) and the “Life” (ZOE) of the world.
