wow! this looks like a real Kirin or Quilin. it differs from a Guardian Lion by the hooves which they always have.

this from Wikipedia: The qilin (Chinese: ??; pinyin: qílín) is a mythical hooved chimerical creature known in Chinese and other East Asian cultures, said to appear with the imminent arrival or passing of a sage or illustrious ruler.[1] It is a good omen thought to occasion prosperity or serenity. It is often depicted with what looks like fire all over its body. It is sometimes called the "Chinese unicorn" when compared with the Western unicorn.

I'm with ho2 on that, although I said foo dog also. The main reason is the foo dog usually is in a sitting position with one leg lifted. Just my opinion, I am def not an expert about this.

You really need to do research on a reputable appraiser. I would actually get a couple opinions. Don't leave it with anyone. If this is bronze, I imagine it's quite valuable.

It is rather a Kylin / Qilin / Kirin Mythical Beast than a foo dog. Google for images!
