The moment I saw this little fellow I fell in love with him. I don't collect these kind of objects but I really liked the fox and thought that one can always use a little tray for keys or coins or old-fashioned calling cards. First I thought that fox was made of brass but at a closer look I noticed that it was actually painted with a greenish colour. On the nose and some other spots bronze shines through. The base, probably marble, is partially translucent.
When I removed some tape on the bottom of the base I found the word Austria engraved and what looks like the letter W or M.
I believe the tray might be pre 1940'.
Thanks for looking:)
WOW, you are fast, Roycroftbooksfromme1! Thanks a lot:)
Thanks a lot, melaniej and aghcollect:)
Many thanks: Jewels, shareurpassion, and blunderbuss2:)
The fox is unmarked. At least I didn't see anything. The base is marked but it is hard to read in the photo. If you look were the tape used to be on the top right, you can see the marking "Austria" and closer to the left there are some scratches and the letter W (looking like two overlapping VV's) but it could be also a M - I am not sure:)

Thanks for the links, kivatinitz. My item looks like a cross of the two links. My fox has only a bit of paint. I am not sure if it ever was painted like the one on the photo. Maybe the paint is worn. I have seen some smaller examples on line but your link seems to be close to the size I have.
I never spend too much money on anything and I don't buy to sell. Therefore, if my item has some value at all, I would be happy but if not, I still like the fox. He (it) looks so proud, doesn't he?
kivatinitz: Muchas gracias por la informacion. Le estoy agradecida.

Just beautiful, when I was living on a farm I was lucky enough to see a fox about twice for sure, wish I had seen more. Wish I had this one also but glad you have it to cherish.
Whoever made that fox made my lion!!! The texture, color the eyes!! Just like my tiger!!
awesome vide-poche well done congrats,
Thanks for your comment, apostata! Too bad that a vide-poche has become almost obsolete - nobody is using coins anymore. I will have no problem finding another use for my little fox. I have the little fellow sitting on a table in the hall and every time I look at him, my heart warms.
I wish you well. Have a speedy recovery!
I have not checked this post in many years, so to all who commented and loved my little fox, my apologies for the late response and many sincere thanks.
Cheers,
Gudrun
