The Gold Oak Leaf is for an Army Major. I would say it's pretty old.
    2. Toyman Toyman, 14 years ago
But does it go with the hat or no?
    3. VikingFan82 VikingFan82, 14 years ago
Not sure. The style of the hat looks old. Not familiar with the style. It looks close to Civil War, but it's obviously not.

We used that Army block cap from the late 1950's up until 1964 when they changed over to the baseball style cap. The Army major's gold oak leaf was worn with that block cap.

this cap was also known as Ridgeway Cap . Cuban leader Fidel Castro wore this style of cap all the time with his uniform

Yep, model 1951 field cap, with stiffened sides as popularized by General Matthew Ridgway. They were replaced about 1963 by the fatigue "baseball" cap.
